Character name: Aidan Colm Patrick O'Connor (Colm for father, Patrick for grandfather)
Position: Bartender at the Violet Hour bar and Lounge
Character Age: 21
Character Blood Type Species: Muggle / Non-Magical
Character Alignment (Dark Faction Supporter, Order Supporter, Neutral): Left blank, as per ordered
Character Physical Description: Aidan stands at 5'8'' and has an "average" build, meaning he is neither scrawny nor has overt brawn. He
inherited none of the "traditional" Irish features from his mother and instead favors his father with brown eyes and darker brown hair which he keeps
cut just above his ears. It's just the ever so slightest bit shaggy. Part of his look.
When it comes to dress, he favors brown slacks, cap toed shoes, long sleeved white shirts and vests - often unbuttoned. The messy-semi-casual look suits him
and makes him attractive to the ladies, even if he's oblivious. He just prefers not to dress like every other bloke on the street. There is always a
certain, impish grin on his face and firm handshake for all.
Character Personality: Aidan is open and honest and as readable as a book for a five year old. Many people find this a flaw but Aidan thinks it keeps life
simpler. He tries not to do things he would be ashamed of and when he does he's willing to accept the blame. More than anything, he loves to laugh and joke
and pour you a good drink - but not with the intention of getting you drunk. Were he not a bartender he might actually make a good radio show host, giving
advice.
The time you will see him saying "no" is when someone needs to stop. Whether it be a drunk making a mess or someone making unwanted passes at
another. This is what makes him able to be a bartender; he is willing to protect his patrons (especially the loyal ones) as they come first. If it comes down
to one of them and Joe Blow of the street, Joe Blow will be going back out on the street faster than you can say "Bob's your uncle."
Character Strengths and Likes: Physically, he's in good shape and can schlep boxes around with no problems. He personally views his sense of trust and
reliability as a plus. He likes music, especially Irish Rock such as Stand Easy, The Dropkick Murphys, Chumbawumba (but not their hit
"Tubthumpin'"). He's always willing to help a person out, even if he doesn't like him because he believes in the "do unto others as
you'd have them do unto you."
Other likes: milk chocolate without nuts, cathedrals, Reservoir Dogs, the ocean, the smell of fresh fish, folk tales, good jokes / puns / limericks, dogs,
button down shirts, hats / fedoras specifically,
Character Weaknesses and Dislikes: Unfortunately his sense of honor can sometimes get him stuck in situations he won't get himself out of (see present
job). It also means he has a tendency to think everyone is as honorable as he is and is therefore somewhat likely to get swindled. He cares too much, which is
possible. He does not believe that drinking is for the purpose of getting drunk and nothing disgusts him more than a person stumbling drunk.
Other dislikes include: Bach, Mozart, baroque music, white chocolate, tequila, modern art, cats (but he tolerates his sister's)
Character's Bad Habits:
nail biting, not combing his hair, leaving half-drunk glasses around his flat, singing off key really loudly while walking down the street, a lot of those
"typically male" behaviors. Being too trusting goes on this list, depending on who you ask.
Character's Family (names, ages, and living or deceased):
Father: Colm Patrick O'Connor
Mother: Róinseach O'Connor
Sister: Aneen O'Connor
Paternal Grandfather: Patrick Roger O'Connor
Maternal Grandmother: Una O'Connor née Shannon
Character History: Hailing from the west coast of Ireland, Aidan was raised in a small village made up mostly of fishermen. He grew up with his mom and dad
quite happily and was even happier when his younger sister was born. The first thing he said when he saw her was "A Neen!" whatever a
"neen" was, they never knew (though he was 7...) and they thought it was a special moment at the time and so her name came about. He is her protector
and first confidant, a role of which he prides himself on. He attended the local school, did well in sports and OK academically. He was the guy who was always
friendly with everybody and occasionally the class clown. Teachers couldn't help but smile at his small pranks and one or two live on as school legend.
Favorite childhood activities? Bike riding, playing in construction zones, eating, putting down whoopie cushions, playing soccer, climbing trees, eating,
playing with toy dinosaurs and trucks, eating, making mud pies, terrorizing the girls, playing pirates and adventuring on the high seas, snacking, playing
cowboys and indians and did I mention eating? At least there was a metabolism and level of activity in place to balance out the love of food. This obsession
has been tempered with age. What? He was a hungry, healthy, growing boy.
His mother is an international reporter for the Daily Prophet and so was sort of just... never around. And because he never showed Wizarding abilities she just
didn't seem to care. His dad has always worked in the blue collar arena and Aidan is more than content to follow him. He always figured he would work and
save up for Aneen to go to college. Little he knew when it turned out she would be going off to Hogwarts at the age of 11. It was only then he found out about
the whole witch thing. His dad had always known but never told at his wife's request. Aidan was a bit sore at both of them, really, for it, but worked it
out for himself eventually. No use crying over spilled milk.
Everything was fine and dandy until things between his mom and dad sort of... blew apart. His dad moved off to Edinburgh in an "anywhere but here"
moment and he and his sister stayed with his mother. His mother, who is a newspaper reporter, was gone more and more frequently, leaving the two kids to their
own devices. At the time, Aidan was 14. He stepped even further into the "big brother" role and never gave it a second thought until one time when
their father was visiting. He overheard an argument between his parents about Aneen going off to some school when she turned 11 in a couple years. He was in
high school at this point and knew there was no way he'd be staying in Ireland with mom if Aneen was going to be gone.
So the moment he graduated high school, he moved out. Mom was dating a new man, whom Aidan didn't like, and as much as he loved being the dependable one,
he needed a break. For awhile, he moved in with his father and worked the night shifts at a local pub. He loved the freedom and the city, the excitement. He
loved the comings and goings and pulling beers for his regulars, whom he grew to know quite well. He dated a few girls, never seriously. They all loved him,
but he wasn't serious enough for the long term. Living like bachelors, the two men had time together like they'd never had before.
While there, Aidan worked the night shift at a grocery store, stocking shelves and cleaning floors. It wasn't glamorous, but it paid and just out of high
school with no real resume to speak of, he wasn't asking for more. Being a night owl didn't bother him and actually set him up quite well for being a
bartender. "Sleeping all day, staying up all night" if I may quote Yellowcard. It doesn't leave much time for a social life but he's not
really looking either. He'll get around to serious dating in his own time.
Aidan got a bit of an itch for even more freedom after a few years of this. So he moved to London and after a long day of walking the streets looking for a
job, he wandered into the Violet Hour bar and lounge. He will be the first to admit it's not the ideal place for him but he wasn't about to turn down
the job. And part of him hopes that having a job that touches the Wizarding world will help him to keep a better eye on his sister. There is something about
the secretive nature of the place that creeps him out and his usual good cheer often seems unwelcome. It's making him a tad anxious and wondering if he
didn't make a bad choice but he's not willing to quit yet.
